Version 6, 28 September 2026: section 9 now carries the full end-user licence text and the company address is listed. Optional diagnostics apply to Shlex 1.3.0 and later.
These terms are between you and Forge Analytics & Systems Inc., 915 Queen St East, Toronto,
Ontario, Canada ("we"). They cover the Shlex application for macOS, the Private
subscription, and shlexball.com. By installing Shlex or buying a subscription you accept them,
together with the privacy policy. Section 9 is the end-user licence for
the model inside the app; the same text ships in the app under
Contents/Resources/licenses/EULA.txt.
Shlex is an independent product of Forge Analytics & Systems Inc.
Shlex finds files on your Mac from a description you type. It needs macOS 15 or later on an Apple-silicon Mac; 16 GB of memory is recommended. It only reads: it never changes, moves or deletes a file. It can miss files and it can misread a request; check what matters.
The first 30 searches typed into an install are free and need no account. After them the app stops searching until a Private subscription is active. We may change the allowance for future installs. Sharing is optional for both free and paid users. Declining sharing does not reduce the allowance or available paid features. Installing the app, downloading a model or purchasing a subscription does not itself give consent to upload search diagnostics.
If you choose Share future searches, you permit us to collect the submitted prompts, model outputs (including commands, refusals and retries) and diagnostic metadata described in the privacy policy to investigate failures, improve Shlex, and train and evaluate models. This includes searches that fail or return no matches. Prompts and outputs are verbatim and can contain personal information. Returned file paths, document contents, previews and raw local history files are not uploaded. You can withdraw in Settings without paying or losing search features.
Report this search lets you review and explicitly send one search's diagnostic report, including when automatic sharing is off. It does not enable sharing of future requests. Unsent events expire after 7 days; uploaded raw records are retained in the active collection database for 30 days, followed by automated cleanup. The privacy policy explains backup retention and how to request earlier deletion. Deletion does not reverse training already performed.
Both tiers keep local search history and local backup copies for troubleshooting, including submitted requests, responses, outcomes and returned file paths. You can delete local history and unsent reports in Settings. New local history is recorded for later searches. Deleting local history does not delete records already received by us or change your allowance or sharing choice.
Do not work around the free allowance, the seat limit or the encryption of the model; do not share a subscription beyond your own Macs; do not use Shlex to search files you have no right to read.
Shlex is provided as is, without warranty of any kind, to the extent the law allows. We do not promise that it finds every file or that it is free of errors.
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, including lost data or lost profit, and our total liability for any claim is limited to what you paid us for Shlex in the twelve months before the claim. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
You can stop using Shlex at any time by deleting it and cancelling any subscription. We may end your licence if you break section 4 or 9; then you must delete every copy of Shlex, and a subscription bought in breach is not refunded. Sections 5, 6, 9 and 10 survive.
When these terms change, the version and date at the top change and the new text is posted here before it takes effect. A price change never applies to an active subscription.
Starting with 1.2.0, the model is downloaded during first setup and stored in private Application Support storage. References below to the model inside the app or its Resources directory describe earlier releases; the same model licence applies to the separately downloaded model. First setup and new model downloads require internet access. Application updates and model updates are separate downloads.
This licence is between you and Forge Analytics & Systems Inc. of Toronto, Canada ("we"). It
covers the Shlex application and the Shlex model inside it. By installing or running Shlex you accept
it. It is the same text as Contents/Resources/licenses/EULA.txt in the app (version 1,
22 September 2026); the numbers below are its own sections.
9.1 What you may do. You may install and run Shlex on Macs you own or control. The free tier runs on any Mac and stops after its allowance of searches. A Private subscription covers up to two Macs at a time; the app lets you move it.
9.2 The model. The model weights in Contents/Resources/model are ours. They are
licensed, not sold, and may be used only by Shlex on the Mac it is installed on. You may not copy,
extract, decrypt, redistribute, sell, lend or publish them, run them outside Shlex, or use them or
Shlex's output to train, tune or evaluate another model.
9.3 Third-party components. The base model is Qwen2.5-Coder-1.5B-Instruct, Apache License 2.0.
The runtime and tools inside Shlex ship under their own licences, listed in
Contents/Resources/licenses. Nothing here narrows those licences for those
components.
9.4 What Shlex does with your files. Shlex only reads. It never changes, moves or deletes a file. Searches run on your Mac; what leaves the Mac, by tier, is set out in the privacy policy.
9.5 No warranty, limited liability. Shlex is provided as is. It can miss files and it can misread a request. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, and our total liability for any claim is limited to what you paid us for Shlex in the twelve months before the claim.
9.6 Ending the licence. This licence ends if you break section 9.2. Then you must delete every copy of Shlex. Sections 9.2, 9.5 and 9.7 survive.
